Thickener Control
Thickeners are used in the tailings and refining process at mines. Typically the mineral refining process requires some type of circuit to remove clays, or other unwanted material. Water is conserved by using a thickener to remove these solids from the process water for reuse and water conservation.
Chemical additives will improve thickener results by increase settling rates. When the rates are increased or varied with process feed changes the thickener can go out of control. Loss of control will result in polluted clarified water, reduction in refining through put, or overloaded rake motors.
Using a simple robust control system to automate the addition of chemicals as loadings change, with compensation of underflow rates will result in a more efficient thickener.
The clarometer
The key to our automation package is the use of the clarometer. This device controls settling rate by measuring the time that a sample tube takes to clear and then comparing this to a reference time. No longer will changes in feed stock cause process upsets when using a Clarometer. It takes the sample from the feed well and based on its performance will adjust the floc pump speed.
