Dry Polymer and Dry Chemical Preparation systems for municipal and industrial waste water treatment

Dry Polymer Preparation Systems

When it comes to mixing a dry material with a fluid we are experts. Our forty years of operation and seeing what works in the field have helped us design the most robust trouble free dry feed system around. We have had experience with all of the dry material methods that are available and have selected a group of components and feed methods that provide for easy and time tests operation.

Dry Polymer
For feeding dry polymer for flocculation in solids liquid separation other applications automatic preparation of the polymer into solution without fisheyes or clogs in the equipment is essential. Most Dry Polymer applications are troublesome not because the dry polymer is the wrong chemical but because the dry polymer is not prepared correctly. If a good polymer feed system is installed then dry polymer is a more cost effective program.

We have two concepts in our dry feed systems. First and foremost all of our equipment is built around the clearflow wetting head and the chemshear mixer.

The Polyprep-D is purpose built to prepare dry or liquid polymers. Our D-500 unit is a great entry level unit. We designed the D-500 system to handle polymer make up for small applications. The system includes a feed system with no eductors or whirlpool wetting systems to clog.

Bentonite and Clay Feed Systems

Numerous processes require clay in suspension to be added to the process. Our dry feed systems meet that need. We take our dry chemical platform and add a material handling package that is specifically designed for handling the properties of clay. Vibrators and a special auger make rat holes and bridging a thing of the past.

Our high speed mixer can put over 5% solids into suspension in less that five minutes. This means our system is smaller and quicker to respond to increased need of bentonite.

The use of bentonite clay in oil and gas recovery or in processes like waste treatment and paper making all need to fucus on safety in chemical feeding. Although bentonite clay is inert, it does pose health threats through inhalation and if wet can become a slip hazard. Our bentonite clay wetting system is a completely enclosed package that provides for safe handling of the powder from leaving the bag to delivery to the process.

Guar Mixing Systems
Mining, Paper making and food processing have processes that use Guar as a reagent. We have developed a system specifically designed for the handling and preparation of guar supplied in bulk bags. Without proper preparation of guar it will not achieve the desired results. Natural guar powder has properties of a flocculant and properties of a starch, because of this it requires a system that can deal with high viscosity and also a solution that creates foam. We deal with both.

Talc Preparation Systems
Similar to clay Talc is used in several processes to alter the properties of the material being made. we have had experience in building systems for mixing talc for addition to process flows. Our systems use the same technology as our dry polymer feeder but have been customized to deal with the problems associated with talc. This means when using our system you will not be dealing with rat holes or bridging of the powder, or dust clouds forming over the process equipment.

About our Equipment

POLYPREP D500

The Polyprep D500 is a complete package for handling, preparing, storing, and dosing of dry polymer. An innovative design provides the complete package for anyone looking to dose 2-3 bags (150 lbs) of polymer per shift (every eight hours). We suggest this unit for smaller polymer applications where the plant uses dry polymer. When connected to a process instrument like a clarometer or turbidity probe the system becomes a slave to your process and is completely automated except for loading polymer. The unit is designed for harsh outdoor use and is small in footprint. Perfectly suited for smaller mining operations like gold mines and sand and gravel. The system is economical yet achieves the goals of any chemical feed system, Consistent correct preparation of chemical, safe handling of chemical minimum operator intervention.

What's Different about our systems

Clear-Flow Wetting Head
The heart of any system dealing with wetting polymer, clay or guar is how it wets. Our system uses a patented wetting module that assures that your dry material is dry until it is in the tank and dispersed. Most systems drop the powder into a funnel or eductor where the powder comes in contact with the water then the slurry must travel to the tank for mixing.

Not with us.

We gravity feed the product and do our wetting as the powder falls from the feeder. This makes sure that the powder has a short distance to travel is dispersed and wetted quickly.

Besides doing a great job at wetting polymer, guar or bentonite, our wetting head is clear, so you can see what is going on during the process. Competitive wetting devices like the jet wet head or wetting cyclones were sufficient solutions but we took our expertise to design the next generation of wetting devices using the latest materials and technology. You benefit from this by having a wetting device that suppresses dusting and remains clog free while wetting the particles well.

ChemShear Mixer

Our biggest break through is in the area of mixing. Just about every system out there uses a lightning or Neptune mixer running at low rpm. We use a proprietary centrally mounted mixer with a special blade and shroud mixing at high rpm to get the powder into solution. We can assure that we get everything into solution and can do it at much higher concentrations in 25% of the time. Because of our technology we can use less potable water and therefore in processes where water is scarce or causes process upsets when added we can further dilute the product with either a clarified and filtered water or with a process reagent.

Utility Feeder Concept
Our concept is to provide a system for wetting dry polymer or clay that is economical and the complete solution. Most low cost systems only give you part of the solution not a materials handling, wetting, mixing, solution storage and dosing solution all in one package. We do! Focused mainly for small waste treatment and mining applications this system can easily fit in the back of a pick-up truck and can handle as much as three bags of polymer per shift. What we feel is most interesting is that by adding an instrument like a turbidity probe or a clarometer you can control the delivery and make up of chemical automatically. The only operator interaction with the polymer make up and feed system is to put the chemical into it.
