Mining and Mineral Processing
Welcome to our mining and minerals section. Below we provide links to industry information as well specific information on how automation and chemical addition equipment is used in mineral processing.
No matter what part of the mining industry you are in, our expertise will be able to improve your process.
What are you in need of?
Thickener Control and Automation
Thickeners are used on the process side and the water reclaimation side of most mineral recovery and metals processes. It does not matter if you are a diamond mining process, emerald mining, coal mining or potash we can improve how you use your thickeners at your plant.
The most common use of a thickener is to remove tailings from the recovery process. These tailings can be clay, ash, fine material, or other insoluables that need to be removed. Typically this type of process is known as solid liquid separation, and focuses on providing a low solids level clarified stream and a high solid thickened waste stream.
Thickener or clarifier automation can result in thousands of dollars saved through reduced chemical usage and increased plant up time as a result of less upsets to the solids removal process. We focus on three areas to improve your Thickener performance
Reliable and accurate chemical preparation and delivery
Almost every mine site that we visit has antiquated or poor performing chemical handiling equipment. One of our first areas of focus is to get all reagents used properly stored, prepared and delivered. Improvements in this area will decrease usage, spoilage, and spills by 3-12%. More importantly your operator interaction with reagents will be safer and use less time.
Below are some links to types of equipment that we provide. We supply liquid and dry chemical systems for coagulants and flocculants, the most used reagents for any thickening process.

Improved process data and automatic respons
e
Increasing the instrumentation does not improve the process unless the appropriate response is taken from the data at the appropriate time. Using devices like a sludge blanket detector, a clarometer, and an overflow clarity probe, thickener performance is measured and by adjusting the chemical feed to the process changes a better operating process is achieved.
With improved response comes increased responsibility. When we provide the means to increasing the settling rate and establishing consistent bed levels and densities, you will also need to improve your control of under flow and rake torque.
The most important instrument for thickener control is the Clarometer, or settling rate monitor. This devise controls anionic flocculant addition through a 4-20 mA signal to the flocculant pump so that the settling rate in the center well is kept close to the desired rate. We are also able to provide the CLAROMETER FAS, this device goes beyond the control of settling rate and also can provide a process signal for the control of coagulant.
The Clarometer was originally created in the United Kingdom by the British Coal Board. Several Chemical Companies have used these systems to control chemical addition in thickeners for coal fines or other thickener applications but most only include the systems as part of a supply package. Chem-Flow Distributes a fully updated system using the latest technology. If you are familiar with the old Ramsay manufactured units, ours are light years ahead. The systems we supply are designed to have no vacuum pump or moving parts.
